Local artists are wanted for a unique art and architecture collaboration, which will allow the winners a chance to enhance Flinders Street’s ART Apartments.
Six commissions are available for artists to transform Guava Lime’s 13-level apartment building (ART Apartments), which includes an eight-storey high public art mural, as well as the building’s ceilings and wall panels. Prizes in excess of $15,000 are also available for the commissioned artists. Construction on ART Apartments will begin later this year.
The Art in the Heart competition is part of a strategy by Guava Lime’s co directors and architects Michael Loucas and Con Zahos to involve the Adelaide arts community.
“’The Art in the Heart competition aims to integrate the best of the state’s up and coming artists with the building architecture and will establish this development as an expressive collaboration of art and architecture in the city,” Michael Loucas said.
Expressions of interest for Art in the Heart close on Friday, January 18. Selected artists will be asked to submit a detailed proposal, with winners announced at the Art Gallery of South Australia on Thursday, February 21.
