Guildhouse launched its 50 for 50: Double the Love campaign last night, which aims to raise $50,000 to establish an interest free loan service for creative professionals.

Through an initiative established by Creative Partnerships Australia’s PLUS One program, all fundraising efforts made by Guildhouse will be doubled.

Executive Director of Guildhouse Rae O’Connell says the initial investment of $50,000 will be “perpetual and will provide valuable investment at pivotal moments in an artist’s career, which in turn will help boost the economic, social and cultural health of South Australia”.

“This new loan service has the potential to be a genuine life changer for creative professionals, providing access to interest-free loans where traditional loans or grant funding is not always available,” she says.

A loan of up to $5000 will be available for individuals, groups, small and large businesses that are established or emerging in the creative industry of South Australia.

Applicants will need to become members of Guildhouse and outline their practice, what they need the loan for, how they will benefit from it and demonstrate that they will be able to repay the loan. Program Manager Megan Rainey says a “small injection of funds at the right time can make a huge difference,” and Guildhouse aims to continuously increase the pool of funds available.

“We know this service is one that will be in demand… we will be aiming to keeping growing the pool of funds to increase the breadth of services to create more opportunities for our members,” she says.

“The loan service will be available to any type of creative professional in the broad visual arts, craft and design sectors.” A membership with Guildhouse will offer support including a referral service, one-on-one consultations for assistance and hosts a “range of professionals to speak on all aspects of the business side of creative practice.”

“We look forward to supporting the many and varied needs of creative professionals through this service,” she says.

“Help with anything from equipment purchase, costs of setting up a studio or freighting a work for exhibition or prize entry can impact their practice and support its sustainability.”
