Celebrated Adelaide artist Emma Hack pulled her resources together to present the inaugural Emma Hack Art Prize. The $5000 award was open to South Australian artists, with 32 selected as finalists. Judges Emma Hack, Greg Mackie, Mark Kimber and Trudy-Anne Brown had a tough choice singling out the winner from more than 200 overall entries. The theme for this year’s prize was ‘My Environment’. Natasha Natale took home the major prize with her piece Stump, a delicate sculpture reflecting the fragility and decline of her home garden. Along with the $5000 prize money, Natale has also received an Emma Hack Art Prize glass sculpture by Zoe Woods. As a final benefit of the win, the Adelaide Convention Centre has offered Natale space for a solo exhibition. The winner of the People’s Choice award was Tiffany Rysdale for her piece Growth Spurt. This award is worth $2000, donated by Raw Pearls. The theme for next year’s prize will be announced in July.
