Adelaide Film Festival 'Goes Rogue' with Mini-Festival in October

“We couldn’t wait to celebrate,” said Adelaide Film Festival CEO Amanda Duthie in a release to the media.

“It is an honour to welcome the work of these brilliant screen creatives as well as presenting work for the very first time here in Adelaide.” Three works commissioned by the Adelaide Film Festival Fund will be premiered in October, including a premiere season of Collisions, Ali’s Wedding and a ‘work in progress’ version of David Stratton’ Stories of Australian Cinema.

“I am delighted that the riches of the Adelaide Film Festival Fund have spilled over into 2016, particularly following the recent international and national success of previous Fund project Girl Asleep” said Minister for the Arts, the Hon Jack Snelling in the same relaease.

“I look forward to seeing what this visionary Fund has produced next at this special one-off event ahead of the return of the fully-fledged Adelaide Film Festival in 2017.”

Collisions, in which Martu Elder Nyarri Nyarri Morgan tells a depply immersive and poetic story in the medium of virtual reality, has already had its premiere and recieved Official

Selection at Sundance Film Festival. The live-action and animated virtual reality film will be showing at the Art Gallery of SA from Wednesday, October 5 until Sunday, October 30. Ali’s Wedding will receieve its world premiere at the festival.

The film is based on the life of writer, actor and comedian Osamah Sami, who also stars. Ali (Osamah Sami) is the charming son of a Muslim cleric who ignites a series of catastrophies thanks to one foolhardy lie. A special ‘In Converstaion’ cast and crew session will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 2pm.

The highly revered, if not loved, film critic David Stratton will also appear on the silver screen this festival in the ‘work in progress’ premiere screening of David Stratton’ Stories of Australian Cinema.

The film will chart the evolution and stories of Australian cinema alongside Stratton’s own growth as one of Australia’s best-respected film critics. Another ‘In Conversation’ session will be held with Stratton and the film’s creative team on Sunday, October 30 at 2pm.

Further events will be held throughout the period, including a retrospective screening of Lucky Miles, in which Osamah Sami made his feature debut, on Thursday, October 27 at 2pm.
