Cabaret Fringe Festival Celebrates 10 Cheeky Years

The Adelaide Cabaret Fringe has announced more than 40 events to mark the 10th anniversary of the festival.

The program, commencing June 3, features fresh and familiar independent cabaret performers from around the country. The acts are to be hosted in 15 unique Adelaide venues until the Festival’s conclusion on June 25.

“Directing the Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival for a decade has been a wonderful experience and I’m ecstatic to launch the 10-year anniversary program,” says Cabaret Fringe Festival Founder and Director Paul Boylon. “Full of local and interstate talent the program is exciting, colorful and offers something for everyone.”

Mikelangelo, having previously performed at the Sydney Opera House, is a program highlight with his one-man tribute to Leonard Cohen and Best Of… shows. Mikelangelo will be be joined by Festival Creative Director Jennifer Kingwell, Adelaide songwriter Koral and Anthony Callisto of Cosmo Thundercat, among others.

Flash Blacks: Live Indigenous Cabaret is a unique addition to the festival’s program too. A host of local Aboriginal talent will support Martin Pascoe, with the show being more humor-focused than the previous iterations performed at the Spirit Festival and the NAIDOC Ball.

The Opening Weekend Gala held at the Freemasons Lodge on June 2 and 3 will serve to underpin the festival’s 10-year accomplishment. Adelaide’s own slice of Berlin, Hans will host the weekend festivities, with circus-gypsy style music provided by local performer Anya Anastasia. Supporting them will be a full program of festivities that are scheduled to run late into the night.

Other program highlights include cabaret, jazz singer & community activist Mama Alto accompanied by pianist Miss Chief, veteran funny lady and singer Dolly Diamond, and the aggressive energy of Publicly Private, a show presented by local musician Nicole O’Rielley.
