Russian Film Festival to screen this November

The Russian Resurrection Film Festival rolls out of the motherland and into Marion this November.

The Russian Resurrection Film Festival rolls out of the motherland and into Marion this November. Russia consistently churns out some of the world’s most challenging and enduring film and animation. The Russian Resurrection Film Festival is the most distinguished showcase of Russian cinema this side of the motherland, and it’s set its sights on Adelaide again. Boasting 14 brand new titles and six retrospective masterpieces, Russian Resurrection invades Event Cinemas Marion from Friday, November 7 to Sunday, November 9. First established in 2003, Russian Resurrection supports the ever-expanding Russian film industry on a global scale. In what is undoubtedly a difficult time to sell Russian culture to a Western audience, the festival provides a varied, uncompromising and vital window into the Russian way of life. The esteemed selection of films includes titles like Test, deemed Kinotavr Film Festival’s Best Film earlier this year; Stalingrad 3D, the engrossing story of the epic WWII battle of Russia vs. Germany; and Dersu Uzala, which won the 1976 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. This year the festival also celebrates the 90th anniversary of Mosfilm, Russia’s first film studio. Russian Resurrection represents the diversity of voices and ideas present not just in the national cinema but throughout wider Russian society. It aims to create cultural engagement and spark an informed dialogue about the controversial country, as well as an appreciation of the country’s ground-breaking contribution to global cinema.
