Victoria Square Art Market 2015

Victoria Square Art Market 2015

An arts market will transform Victoria Square into a bustling bohemian village full of art, music and food next month.

An initiative of Adelaide artist and DJ Driller Jet Armstrong, and supported by Splash Adelaide, Victoria Square Art Market 2015 will take place on Sunday, 11th October between 11am and 5pm. Inspired by the lively, eclectic district of Montmartre, Paris and encompassing the same leisurely vibes of our own Gilles St Markets, the family-friendly event will focus on South Australian artists and artisans, local wares, multi-cultural cuisines and musical delights. Arts-Markets “Having visited Paris and witnessed the artistic market vibes in person, I’ve drawn inspiration from my first hand experiences,” says Armstrong. “In terms of the art market spaces, there is nothing happening in Adelaide at the moment, so this event will be a great way for people to engage with art and artists in a picturesque public space.” The immersive bohemian space will encourage the public to engage with artists, wander through varied art stations, participate in a large-scale colouring-in installation and simply soak up the sun in the relaxed market atmosphere. A variety of unique stalls adorned with beautiful apparels, handmade jewellery, vintage ware and quirky objects d’art will also be established alongside the artworks. Vic-Square-arts-Markets A pop-up Garden Party Bar – run by Armstrong’s Sugar Nightclub – will feature a selection of South Australian winemakers, local brewers and will feature live music throughout the afternoon. An interactive kid’s zone will let young creatives run wild with a mix of art and craft activities, while a selection of food trucks will cater for all tastes, providing a mix of multi-cultural cuisine for the duration of the event. “We’re hoping the markets will become an annual event,” says Armstrong. “I think it’s ideally placed in early October – being just after SALA but before the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Adelaide Festival of the Arts kick off in Adelaide “ The Victoria Square Art Market will showcase five established South Australian artists: Emma Hack, Store, Annabelle Collett, Donovan Christie and Chris Gaston.
