Expressions of interest open for $35,000 Guildhouse Fellowship

Expressions of interest open for $35,000 Guildhouse Fellowship

A new annual fellowship will support local mid-career artists in need of funding to realise their artistic vision.

The Guildhouse Fellowship will award a mid-career South Australian visual artist, craft person or designer $35,000 to support research, international travel and the creation of new work.

“A fellowship at this career stage provides an artist with not only the financial means to dedicate to their practice, but the intellectual space to commit to their development and professional sustainability,” says Guildhouse chief executive Emma Fey.

Aimed at artists who have moved beyond the early years of their practice and need an opportunity to explore, research and create, fellowship artists will have an opportunity to present their work at the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA).

“Adelaide provides an exceptional training ground for early career artists, and this fellowship provides the next step for them,” AGSA artistic director Rhana Devenport says. “Opportunities of this calibre build a culture of excellence and offer an important move towards expanding horizons for both artists and their audiences.”

Guildhouse is a not-for-profit organisation providing professional development support to South Australian craftspeople, visual artists and designers. This award is supported by the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation and is presented in partnership with the AGSA.

A free information session will be held on Monday, April 8 with AGSA assistant director, artistic programs Lisa Slade and local artist Kirsten Coelho to discuss the impact of the fellowship on an artist’s practice. This will be followed by a Q&A with Guildhouse’s Emma Fey.

Guildhouse is currently accepting expressions of interest, with applications closing Tuesday, April 30.
