Australia’s biggest gathering of world musicians will once again descend on Botanic Park for iconic music and arts festival WOMADelaide. Twenty-five international artists have been announced in a first glimpse of the line up, headed by legendary Senegalese singer, percussionist and social revolutionist Youssou N’Dour, in what will be his third appearance at the festival. N’Dour, who first took to the WOMADelaide stage in 1992, is one of the most influential cultural figureheads within political and musical circles in Africa. His illustrious career has spanned over three decades, including a stint as Senegal’s Minister for Culture and Tourism. “Youssou’s long standing relationship with WOMADelaide and its fans is something we hold very dear,” WOMADelaide Director Ian Scobie said. “He is a true leader on and off the stage and it’s a privilege to again exclusively host him at WOMADelaide in 2015.” Youssou N’Dour leads an eclectic and inspired 2015 line up including Canadian vocalist Rufus Wainwright, singer Neneh Cherry (who collaborated with N’Dour for their hit 7 Seconds) with RocketNumberNine , Irish folk supergroup The Gloaming, South African jazz pianist and composer Abdullah Ibrahim Quartet, beat-heavy Balkan Beat Box, desert bluesman Bombino, and post-rock samplers Public Broadcasting Service.
