I Wish Borders Could Become Drunk (Part 3)

Jul 13 - 5:30 PM

Lion Arts Factory

$69 – $89

I Wish Borders Could Become Drunk (Part Three) is a unique performance that questions the demonisation of asylum seekers through the artist’s highly personal perspective on the trials and realities of the contemporary refugee experience.

Drawing his own lived experiences as a Hazara refugee, artist Elyas Alavi invites audiences to join him on a collective journey that traverses the Lion Arts Centre courtyard and ACE Open gallery in a sensitive and at times playful subversion of dominant narratives around refugees and asylum seekers. The third and final iteration of the performance, previously presented at Melbourne’s Abbotsford Convent for Next Wave Festival, and at Sydney’s firstdraft, features recitals of Alavi’s award-winning poetry accompanied by improvised soundscapes devised specifically for the performance by local musicians.
