This short course will run over four consecutive Saturdays, explores the ways in which the faith of Islam has inspired artists over the centuries.
Catering to individuals with little or no prior knowledge of Islam or its aesthetics, this course considers the ways in which religion has defined the historical identity of art across the Muslim world.
Focus areas include art and the revelation of the Qur’an, the question of figurative images in Islam, art and landscape in the Muslim world, and cross-cultural exchanges in Islam’s heartland and peripheries.
