Fringe outside the city

Fringe outside the city

As its name might suggest, the Fringe extends to all corners of Adelaide and beyond. Here are the best things happening outside the CBD this season.

Fleurieu Fringe

Following a Fringe Award for Best Venue in 2017, the Fleurieu Fringe is popping up once again at the Port Noarlunga riverbank for one more weekend this February.

You can get in for a gold coin on Friday and Sunday, otherwise you will need to purchase show ticket for entry on Saturday evenings. The Saturday program includes Idris Stanton: The Last King of Vaudeville (who you might know from Papillon and Pants Down Circus).

Stirling Fringe

If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city then a short drive up the freeway might be just what you need.

The Stirling Fringe is a proudly local affair, produced by Hills-based company Bamboozled Productions and sponsored by Uraidla Brewery, and as you would expect boasts a strong offering of food and drink from local producers. There’s plenty on offer in its program of 38 productions, which also happens to contain the highest percentage of female-starring shows of any Fringe hub in 2018.

Port Fringe

On Saturday February 24 the iconic Port is putting on the full street party experience, complete with a live music stage, roaming entertainers and the famous Fringe Caravan.

The Port Fringe accompanies an already packed program of events taking place at Port Adelaide venues throughout the Fringe. Loucas Loizou’s musical interpretation of Oedipus Rex, historical visual art exhibition PORTrayal and Pop Up At The Port — a bumper day of food, wine and music at Hart’s Mill — are just some of the highlights.

Salisbury Secret Garden

With another impressive array of free and ticketed shows, the Salisbury Secret Garden in Adelaide’s will be the strongest yet.

Its impressive music program is centred on two big and (surprisingly) free events happening on the first weekend of March. Local up-and-comer MANE will bring her eclectic pop sounds to Showcase on Friday March 2 before legendary Perth rock outfit Jebediah headline Sounds In The Square the following night. These events are bracketed by a string of other highlights including gypsy jazz duo Gypsy Fire Electric and Adelaide’s own ‘60s tribute show The 60 Four.
