More than 150 South Australian wineries are coming together under one roof to bring you Australia’s biggest cellar door extravaganza, Cellar Door Wine Festival, happening this month at the Adelaide Convention Centre starting Friday, February 22. With 30 new wineries added to the festival’s third annual event, wine lovers will be able to sample thousands of wines from SA’s 13 wine regions as they stroll around the festival with a Riedel glass in tow, testing wine at leisure while learning about wineries and their coveted products. Even small wineries that don’t have cellar doors will feature at the festival, giving owners a chance to show-off their produce and get their wines recognised by fellow South Australians. Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alex Gilbert said the festival is becoming the biggest of its kind in Australia and has placed a big emphasis on educating visitors at this year’s festival. “The Festival differs from other wine events because it’s educational and gives people a greater understanding of the characteristics of each region and the varying winemaking styles of the local wines,” Gilbert said in a press release. Also on the agenda is a series of Master Classes including a ‘SA Seafood and White Wine Showcase’ and ‘Emerging Trends’ that will take you on a journey through the newest and most exciting food and wine varieties out. A new Food Producers’ area displays a select few emerging foodies who have the chance to showcase their skills and wares, many of which will be doing so for the first time. The Cellar Door Festival opens Friday, February 22 from 5pm until 9pm with festivities continuing all weekend from 11am to 6pm daily.
