What’s on in Adelaide this Easter weekend?

There’s more to Easter in SA than chocolate and horse-racing. It can be a busy time, but it’s also a good chance to get away from the hustle and bustle and do things at your own pace. Here’s what’s on offer this long weekend:

Good Friday, March 30

Colours of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée D’Orsay
This hotly anticipated exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia opens the day before Easter so take advantage of their long weekend opening hours to catch some masterpieces from Monet, Renoir, Manet and many more. Curator Tony Magnusson will dig deeper into the exhibition’s themes at curator talks (free with an exhibition ticket) on Good Friday and Easter Saturday at 11am.

Blenheim Music and Camping Festival
The Clare Valley camping festival has become a staple of South Australia’s event calendar and gets better and better each year. With laid back late-night vibes, Blenheim boasts the likes of The Black Seeds, Mia Dyson, West Thebarton, Timberwolf, Mojo Juju and many more over two nights. If you haven’t been it might be time to see what the fuss is about.

Let The Tradition Begin
2KW on King William Street will stage a rooftop party on Good Friday with a range of DJs taking over the decks from 2pm. The ticket price includes a Lyrebird gin or Slobrew on arrival.

A Very Good Friday at Electra House
Traditionally a quiet day around town, Electra House will turn up the volume with a night of house music and a lineup of Australian DJ legends from MINX to Luke Lombe, Tommy Jr x DB, Seamless, Tim Bos, Yanya Boston and a surprise guest touted as Adelaide electronic music royalty.

Meadows Easter Fair
Celebrating its 20th year, the Meadows Easter Fair is back for another big weekend of market fun. With arts, crafts, food and plenty on offer for the kids, the four-day fair is well worth the leafy drive into the Hills. New additions this year include a native animal nursery, facepainting and a jumping castle.

Melba’s Easter Weekend
The Adelaide Hills chocolate factory is celebrating Easter with a party each day of the long weekend. Visitors can wander through the factory and then enjoy lunch on the lawns with a Mahalia Coffee, specialty hot chocolate, milkshakes, ice-cream, chocolates and more. Local artist Silvio Apponyi will stage a live carving of a 10kg block of chocolate on Good Friday.

Bike SA’s Clare Easter Cycle
Bike SA offers a long weekend of relaxed riding for family and friends in the Clare Valley. The Easter Cycle Rides program offers activities and rides of varying distance and duration with something to suit all ride abilities. There’s also an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday morning and family night ride on Sunday night.

Bilby Bonanza at Adelaide Zoo
A Bilby Bonanza will be held this Easter to celebrate 25 years of the Haigh’s Easter Bilby and Adelaide Zoo’s commitment to bilby conservation. There will be free chocolate eggs, competitions and the chance to get up close to some of the world’s most endangered animals, like the bilby.

Endless Summer

Adelaide International Kite Festival
This sky-show-spectacular returns to the Semaphore foreshore with an array of whales, octopuses and other animals taking to the sky. There will be guest kite flyers from New Zealand and more than 30 market stalls open.

Cirque Africa 2.0
After racking up five-star reviews throughout the Fringe, Cirque Africa rounds out its bumper season over the Easter weekend. A colourful celebration of African culture and circus spectacle, Cirque Africa is your last chance to get your Fringe fix in 2018.

Glen Ewin Estate Family Fun Day
Glen Ewin Estate in the Adelaide Hills will host a family fun day on Easter Sunday with a jumping castle, face painting, Easter egg hunt and egg and spoon race, plus cocktails, food stalls, a wine bar and live music for the adults.
