South Australian designers will be on form this weekend at Bowerbird Design Market

Biannual calendar highlight Bowerbird Design Market is returning to the showgrounds on Friday, November 21. Across three days, local and national designers from all disciplines – homewares, clothing, furniture, stationery and more – will descend upon Adelaide in a creative frenzy. The market grows with every season, and this round boasts an impressive 62 local artisans, with a further 71 from around Australia. Among the prominent South Australian designers is minimalist furniture and homewares creator Robyn Wood. Her bud lamp and pale wooden tables and chairs are bright additions to any home. Clean lines and simple shapes gain personality through subtle detailing and masterful production. Wood’s work is proudly created in South Australia, in collaboration with local makers, and with a desire for sustainable practice. Lamp Robyn Wood, Bud Lamp Simple lines continue in Such Great Heights’ collections, with something as pedestrian as a clothes horse becoming a thing of beauty. Touches of colour and playful, nostalgic motifs add a child-hearted charm to their creations. Along with furniture, Such Great Heights use lively textiles to create indoor play-tents, illustrated Scout-esque badges and bags. Lex Stobie and Winestains Barossa both use wood for their furniture, but the approaches and results couldn’t be further from each other. Stobie’s work melds into elegant, sleek shapes. Staining makes the furniture shine, as the grains animate the lines in the designs themselves. Winestains, however, thrives on the vitality of wood bent and scarred by use. Kitchenware, wine-racks and tables grow from repurposed wine barrels, rich in both texture and history. Each piece presents a unique opportunity, with designs surrendering to the natural whims of the wood. Bowerbird Design Market brings enthusiasts, collectors and creators together in the celebration of local artisan goods.
