Beloved Adelaide couture house Paolo Sebastian drawn inspiration from the women of Hollywood for its Spring/Summer 2019 collection.
Inspired by the glamour and melancholia of Hollywood’s silver screen icons, the collection pays homage to the women who shaped cinema’s golden era.
Creative Director and Designer Paul Vasileff says the new collection introduces a new aesthetic to the brand.
“Rather than following our usual fairy tale narrative, The Starlet looks at the iconic women of Hollywood like Joan Crawford and Hedy Lamarr, who not only shaped the film industry but had to overcome so much to maintain their place in Hollywood,” Paul says.
“Their rise to stardom is represented by luxurious feather and metallic accents, while their struggles to maintain fame is referenced by the muted colour palette.”
In smoky tones of blush, iris and pearl, each design is expertly crafted, featuring accents of Swarovski crystals, beaded tassels and intricate metallic thread-work, signature to the Paolo Sebastian name.
‘The Starlet’ includes a range of incredible pieces that are both daring and unique. From the fabrications that are paired together, to the feminine silhouettes and draping trains, to the mix of classic and modern necklines.
Following on from previous collections, Paul has continued to incorporate capes and shawls with the inclusion of a hand-draped silk crepe gown with a dramatic cape, as well as a Marlene Dietrich inspired crystal encrusted gown with beaded feather shawl.
