Penfolds has been named the ‘World’s Most Admired Wine Brand’ in the annual Drinks International poll. Almost 200 industry experts from across the world, including buyers, sommeliers, wine writers, Masters of Wine, and wine critics took part in the vote on the weekend.
“All at Penfolds are so chuffed with this global recognition – from those working in our vineyards and wineries, on our bottling lines, back-of-house in logistics, procurement and marketing, to our talented sales teams,” said Chief Winemaker at Penfolds, Peter Gago in a press release. Previous two-time winner, the Spanish wine brand Torres was knocked to second position in the competition, while Ridge Vineyards from the US took third. Penfolds had previously ranked in third place in 2014, and Jacob’s Creek Wines has placed in the list in past year. The competition pits wine brands from all global regions, styles and qualities against each other to determine the most admirable of all brands in a highly competitive market. Experts were asked to vote based on certain criteria including the consistent quality of the brand’s wine, how well it reflects the region or country of origin, and its appeal to a wide demographic. Penfolds has consistently built a strong national and international profile in past decades, owing in part to the continued success of Grange vintages and to recent expansion in the Asian wine market.
