Oh buoy: Adelaide Festival Palais floats 2018 lineup with music, food and talks

The Palais, which will once again sit on Elder Park’s shoreline, is set to run daily events from morning to night throughout the Festival, with music and food events getting the highest billing.

“The Palais proves that Adelaide in March is not only a party city,” said the Festival’s co-artistic director Rachel Healy in a release, “it’s also a city of muscular ideas, of thrilling creativity, and of unmissable entertainment.”

At the top of the musical stream will be Brooklyn rockers Grizzly Bear, queer icon Perfume Genius and UK electro-nauts Mount Kimbie. Flowing down the lineup are an assortment of diverse acts, including an eclectic list of Australian favourites Archie Roach, Lior, Regurgitator, Julia Jacklin and Art Vs Science. Lee Fields and The Expressions will also feature at the Palais.

The Palais’ Long Lunches will also bob into view, this time focussing on more contemporary ticketed dining experiences than 2017’s nostalgic menu, with the theme, ‘Under the Influence of Adelaide’.

Touting South Australia’s propensity to produce brilliant produce and gastronomic talent, the Long Lunches will feature a series of chefs who acquired their love for food in SA or taken inspiration from local food scene.

O Tama Carey of Sydney’s Berta and Billy Kwong, Jared Ingersoll of Dark Mofo and Lola’s Pergola fame, Alex Herbert of Bird, Cow, Fish, Jordan Theodoros from Peel St Restaurant and Janet Jeffs of Neddy’s, Possums and Kilikanoon in SA as well as Canberra’s Juniperberry will form the formidable foodie crew.

“Each chef will tell their own story through an inspired menu exploring both our food heritage and food future,” says Gill Minervini, the Long Lunches curator. “I invite everyone to come along, enjoy the art of hospitality, and really discover what makes us taste and feel great over a long, lazy lunch.”

David Marr’s Festival Forums also comes aboard the Palais for 2018. The series of weekday lunchtime events will see Marr interviewing and fishing for fascinating insight with selected Festival artists.

“Set amidst the beauty of the Torrens and Parklands, it will breathe with light and life and provide a place for pleasure, reflection, and stimulation: there’s truly something for everyone at The Palais,” said Healy’s co-captain Neil Armfield.
