Meet Your Maker: Bohie Palecek

Meet Your Maker: Bohie Palecek

Originally from the South East Coast, Palecek came to Adelaide for a three–month residency at Tooth and Nail in 2013. There she found a community of like–minded entrepreneurs and was well and truly embraced. A steady stream of work opportunities ensued, including numerous sign–writing commissions and multiple invitations to exhibit.

Three months turned into six and now Palecek’s hand painted signage can be found across Adelaide. From the Central Market to Burger Theory, East End Cellars, The Publishers Hotel, Hills Cider and Degroot Coffee… the list goes on. She has since spent a year in North America but earlier this year returned to Adelaide to establish a home base.

Since returning, Palecek has been busy working on Westfield Marion’s newly developed Fresh Food precinct. Commissioned to design and produce four murals (three of which were over six metres wide) and 14 hand–painted chalkboards, Palecek particularly enjoyed the project as its scale gave her the opportunity to fully immerse herself in the process.

No matter the scale, Palecek is clearly committed to her craft and her clients, which include United States–based Electric California and Adelaide’s own Mischief Brew Coffee. A recent commission to design the logo and label of Stoke Wines saw her meet with client Nick Dugmore every Wednesday evening over a three–month period.

Of the process Dugmore says, “Bohie delves a little deeper than your average designer. The whole process becomes quite personal and you really feel like the work is your own at the end of it all.” bohie-palecek-well-made-adelaide-review

Palecek is currently locking down the details of an upcoming residency with UK–based clothing brand We Do Nothing as well as settling into the Axe House, a collective studio in Croydon Park. Despite describing herself as a nomad and always up for an adventure, this talented creative might just have found her home.

Bohie Palecek is featured on the Well Made website. Well Made is an initiative of Guildhouse.
