Entries for $100,000 Ramsay Art Prize close soon

Entries for the rich Ramsay Art Prize, which is  open to Australian artists under the age of 40, close on Friday, December 14.

The prize is expected to see a diverse set of submissions from artists working across all mediums, including sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, installation, sound, digital and live art.

Supported in perpetuity by the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation, the winner will pick up $100,000 and have their winning artwork permanently acquired by the Art Gallery of South Australia for its own exhibition.

Sarah Contos, who won the 2017 Ramsay Art Prize, says that winning the prize “reasserted my position as an artist and it gave my practice a huge boost in confidence”.

An international panel of eminent artists and curators will decide on the Ramsay finalists. The judges will include Russell Storer (Deputy Director – Curatorial and Research – National Gallery of Singapore), Richard Lewer (contemporary artist), and Dr Lisa Slade (Assistant Director, Artistic Programs, Art Gallery of South Australia).

All finalists for the prize will be exhibited at the Art Gallery of South Australia from Saturday, May 25 to Sunday, August 25 2019 and will also include a public voted People’s Choice Prize of $15,000 supported by Lipman Karas.
