Coffee Review: Miss 5048

Health food cafés seem to be popping up like flaxseed flowers and Miss 5048 offers a seasonal menu alongside a boutique level of coffee.

Close to the beach, Miss 5048 serves delicious vegan, organic, glutenfree and raw food options with protein balls and protein powder shakes for the gym junkies. The gym is one of many hobbies of manager Darren Haddrill who has 13 years’ experience in hospitality. Haddrill says that people are “limited for smart food choices and without this growth of health-food cafés, they’ll look for an easier, unhealthy option”. You can tell the area needs this place because of the popularity and the diversity of the customers. I notice young and old with a sprinkling of cyclists. Miss 5048 rotates different beans every few weeks from local coffee supplier Carnevale Coffee Roasters. I enjoy an organic, fairtrade coffee (Ethiopian Sidamo) but there is another blend called King Kong that I will have to try next time. Miss-5048-Coffee-Review-Adelaide-Review-brighton-road-local-cafe-mural-south-australia-2016 Miss 5048 has some other interesting products on the shelf from Carnevale Coffee roasters but one product draws me over for a closer look. An organic coffee body wash called Scrub is an exfoliating soap product for men and women. It’s made from a mix of Australian-roasted organic coffee grounds, recycled organic pod coffee, cold-pressed organic virgin coconut oil and naturally evaporated organic sea salt. It comes in different scents including organic pink grapefruit and vanilla essential oil. Local artist ‘Store’ was brought in to do his trademark art on the feature wall and his work is the first thing that pops out at you when you walk in. The wall joins a bar, and light fittings are made from over 30 white apricot tins (dip tins) donated from an apricot orchard. Haddrill says that Carnevale Coffee Roasters and Miss 5048 are working closely together and want to be an active part of the community as they grow. With a wholesome, clean-eating menu complemented by friendly staff, Miss 5048 is the perfect place to visit with your significant other for a cup of quality coffee before heading to the beach.
