Flying high: Tasting Australia launches 2018 program

Tasting Australia’s program takes to the sky with tailor-made, fly-in-fly-out food experiences touching down in South Australia and internationally renowned chefs joining local identities for 10 days of gastronomic adventures.

Upwards of 140 events will take place across South Australia throughout the 10-day festival of gastronomy this April. Chefs Simon Bryant and Jock Zonfrillo return to helm Tasting Australia as festival and programming directors, while Cheong Liew will serve as patron, and Africola’s Duncan Welgemoed joins winemaker and writer Nick Stock as ambassadors.

“It’s always exciting to see the public get out and meet producers, try new ingredients, sample different wines and share their experiences during the festival,” Bryant says in a release. “We are all about people, place and produce and the incredible program for 2018 shows that.”

Notable new additions to the roster of events include the Tasting Australia Airlines program, an opening gala at the d’Arenberg Cube, and closing party at Basket Range’s The Manor.

Tasting Australia Airlines sees the festival continue its focus on South Australian regions, with tailor-made flights allowing speedy transport to regional destinations, including Kangaroo Island, Coffin Bay and the Limestone Coast, with tailor-made FIFO food itineraries for guests.

Leading international chefs also join the program once more, with events in Victoria Square’s Glasshouse Kitchen and restaurants around the state. Three chefs from World’s 50 Best Restaurant-ranking kitchens are on the line-up: Christian Puglisi of Copenhagen’s Relæ, Rodolfo Guzman of Chile’s Borago and Mehmet Gürs from Turkey’s Mikla. Norbert Niederkofler of the three-Michelin star St Hubertus in Italy and Carlo Mirarchi from the two-Michelin star Blanca in New York City will also bring their expertise to the festival.

“Tasting Australia continues to evolve but one thing is constant – the support and skill of our local industry,” Bryant says.
