Beer & BBQ Festival serves up 2019 program

The festival will return to the Adelaide Showground for its fifth outing on the weekend of Friday, July 12 – Sunday, July 14. Its spread of featured cookers this year include Peel Street’s Bread & Bone, Comida’s Beer Can Chicken and for the first time at the festival, cult Adelaide slow cookers Sneaky Pickle. Interstaters include Victoria’s Burn City Smokers and 8 Bit Burger, while Simon Bryant will appear alongside Hobart-based Mal Meiers to raise money for Meiers’ ‘Food For Thought’ charity supporting mental health in the hospitality industry.

The festival will also welcome Ontario’s Collective Arts Brewing, who will collaborate with six prominent Australian brewers including Young Henry’s, Moo Brew and Adelaide’s own Little Bang Brewing to create a series of exclusive IPAs. The full brewer lineup is due to land in June, but the first announcement promises a celebration of all manner of non-beer tonics from wine, gin and bourbon to alcoholic kombucha.

In addition to the eating and drinking, the festival’s musical program has brought together some of Australia’s leading rock pisstakers in Frenzal Rhomb and You Am I, who will be performing their tribute to Spinal Tap, ‘The Majesty of Tap’, presumably to maximise the potential for making ‘tap’ related beer puns onstage. Joining Frenzal Rhomb on Friday, July 12 will be Melbourne’s Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, last seen alongside Pussy Riot at this year’s RCC Fringe. On Saturday, Tim Rogers and co. will rub shoulders with N.W.A.’s DJ Yella, Canberra’s finest Moaning Lisa and Sampology.

The news follows a busy few months for the team behind Beer & BBQ Festival following  their recent takeover of the relocated and revamped University of Adelaide UniBar, which  officially opened earlier this month.
