12 graduates had been nominated across the three categories and the judging panel was comprised of industry professionals from local firms including Woods Bagot, Genesin Studio, Obelia Studio, Jim Hannon-Tan Design, Working Images and Studio Band. The GOTYA awards are held annually to highlight the portfolios of top final year undergraduate students or recent graduates. Nominees are put forward by the faculties of participating organisations, and students each submit three studio projects as well as attending interviews with the judges. Xing Zhou was announced as the overall winner of the 2016 SA/NT GOTYA, with judges impressed by her “ability to bring inspiration from personal experiences into her design” and stated that her “solutions for everyday problems, such as shopping, are innovative and the love and patience that has gone into each one is immediately evident.”
