Local producer Kate Croser to lead South Australian Film Corporation

Gibson resigned from the position in July after just 15 months in the role, returning to Sydney after a short but busy tenure that saw a series of high profile productions film in the state including the Daniel Radcliffe-starring Escape From Pretoria, Sophie Hyde-directed SBS series The Hunting and ABC/Netflix hit The Letdown, along with the much-feted luring of video game reboot Mortal Kombat to South Australia.

Croser comes to the role from Adelaide-based production company KOJO Entertainment, where she has worked as Head of Production and Development since 2016. In recent years Croser has produced a number of acclaimed local productions including cult SBS series Danger 5 and recent Miranda Tapsell-led rom com Top End Wedding, building on a long career in Australian film and television that includes stints on McLeod’s Daughters, Ten Canoes and Red Dog. Croser has also been an SAFC board member and member of the Screen Producers Australian council.

“Kate meets all of the qualities needed to help elevate the screen industry in South Australia to the next level,” SAFC chair Peter Hanlon says of Croser’s appointment. “Kate’s track record with the industry in South Australia, nationally and internationally, plus her engaging style and broader experience will serve us well as we build on our recent successes.”

“Having produced numerous film and television projects and run several production companies in South Australia I am deeply plugged into the fantastic wealth of talent, businesses, crews, and advantages within the South Australian screen industry.”

Croser will begin her new role in September. The recent leadership change comes soon after the state government allocated $6 million to the SAFC’s Screen Production Investment Fund in the 2019/20 State Budget.
