Alt-J to Tour Australia and New Zealand in 2017

English indie rockers alt-J will tour Australia and New Zealand this December, with Californian quartet Warpaint supporting for the Australian leg of the tour.

Alt-J will kick off their Oceania tour in Adelaide on Tuesday, December 5, before swinging along the east cost through Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, then hopping the pond for shows in Auckland and Wellington.

Known for an ethereal pop-rock style, occasionally labelled ‘math-rock’ or ‘folktronica’, Alt-J gained prominence for their combination of catchy riffs and hymnal chorus. The group has gone on to build a reputation for strong live performances, and headlined multiple European festivals in recent years.

Formed in 2007, Alt-J’s star rose quickly after the release of their first ‘math-rock’ studio album An Awesome Wave in 2012. That album won the British Mercury Prize in 2012 and also picked up a swag of Brit Award nominations while dividing critics as to its merits. Their follow up album This Is All Yours split critics as well, but was nominated for a Best Alternative Album Grammy in 2014.

Alt-J’s next studio album Relaxer is scheduled for release next week, having been teased on various social media platforms. Two singles, 3WW and In Cold Blood have been released from the album.

Tickets will go on sale for alt-J’s Australia/NZ tour on Tuesday, June 6.
