David Sedaris to visit Adelaide on upcoming Australian tour

American author and humourist David Sedaris will visit Adelaide in early 2020 as part of his latest book tour.

A longtime contributor to celebrated public radio programme This American Life and an essayist for The New Yorker, Sedaris has published a series of bestselling story collections which typically see him rake over episodes of his own life with wry and occasionally devastating wit. He is perhaps best known for his 1997 collection Naked and 2004’s Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim.

Sedaris is currently touring in the wake of his latest collection Calypso, his first new book since 2013 – not withstanding 2017’s Theft By Finding, which collected Sedaris’ diaries. Reviewed in our August 2018 edition, Calypso is a somewhat darker read that sees Sedaris contemplate mortality and  “observe reaching the upper limits of middle age in the Trump era with trademark sharp wit and clever turns of phrase”.

Although a regular visitor to Australia, trips to Adelaide have been somewhat infrequent with Sedaris’ last Adelaide appearance in 2012. Sedaris will speak at the Dunstan Playhouse on Saturday, January 18, 2019. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 26 2019.
