Rufus Wainwright announces 20th anniversary tour

Rufus Wainwright will return to Adelaide to mark 20 years since the arrival of his debut album.

Two years after performing his ruby slipper-inclusive Judy Garland tribute Rufus Does Judy! as part of the Adelaide Festival, Wainwright will return to the Adelaide Festival Centre stage, this time delving into his own back catalogue.

The All These Poses will see Wainwright revisit his his first two records in light of the 20th anniversary of his self-titled debut. Famously culled from sprawling sessions that saw over 50 songs captured to tape, the album saw Wainwright work with eccentric American composer and one-time Brian Wilson collaborator Van Dyke Parks. Its release in mid 1998 helped established Wainwright as his own unique talent distinct from the legacies of his famous parents, and its 2001 follow-up Poses further cemented the status of Wainwright’s voice as a songwriter and performer.

Wainwright will perform highlights from both Rufus Wainwright and Poses on the five-date tour. “20 years, what can I say?” says Wainwright of the milestone. “In life, one stands the test of time but in music, thankfully, one reaps the rewards. Those were some pretty good years!”
