Bon Iver to return to Adelaide on 2020 Australian tour

The post folk project of Wisconsin songwriter Justin Vernon will return to Australia in June for a series of dates in support of the fourth Bon Iver album i,i.

The group, which Vernon began in 2007 with stark folk sounds of the largely solo For Emma, Forever Ago, has since evolved far beyond that album’s heartbroken-guy-in-the-woods premise. Kanye West’s sampling of the vocoder-rich 2009 b-side Woods saw Vernon become a regular collaborator of the rapper and producer on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Yeezus.

In turn, Bon Iver’s output has grown more eclectic, with 2016’s 22, A Million augmenting Vernon’s peerless falsetto with lashings of autotune over knotty, experimental sounds. Released in August, i,i continues that evolution with guests including James Blake, 2017 Laneway Festival highlight Moses Sumney and regular foil Aaron Dessner of The National.

This new string of dates will see Vernon visit Adelaide for the first time since performing at Thebarton Theatre in 2012 in support of second album Bon Iver, Bon Iver. In addition to headlining Dark Mofo festival in Hobart, the group will perform at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Theatre on Thursday 18 June.
